Bwaha. First ficlet in ages. Alien vs. Predator. The movie version. Lex is no Machiko, but she'll do in a pinch.

Back to trying to make a spreadsheet. Does anybody know how to make the vertical gridlines disappear, but keep the horizontal ones? Sigh. Drawback to online class #1-100: Nobody to ask for help or copy off of, or even to just lean over and say 'How'd you do that?? Mine isn't working.' And mine really isn't.

But in other news, don't tell [livejournal.com profile] kateisbonkers but Dad and I saw a shark off the pier after they left last Saturday. A fisherman had caught a squeaky little fish and let it go once he had it off the hook. It hit the water with a little ploop and was gone, and then this much larger dorsal fin appeared in that exact spot. It was a brown shark with a white-tipped fin (not sure what kind that is) about four or five feet long. It made a second pass of the spot and then was gone. The fishermen were suddenly quiet. Being twenty feet over the water on a pier didn't stop that old primal fear of things with teeth from setting in.

"It wasn't a very big one," I offered, to lighten the mood.

"Big enough," said a man with a nervous grin. Then it started to rain, so we got on our way. Nature is fun!

Aw. We went in too! So did everybody on the beach! And not one of us or them got nibbled or nipped or messily devoured. There have been sharks out there since dinosaur days. And we hardly ever even see them. Now. How many times have you ever seen one while you were in the water? (I know, I know, it would scare the bejabbers out of me too...) I'm just saying that we've gone to the beach pretty much every year and not once in our whole lives have we been even approached by a shark.

That we knew of.

See? Don't you feel better? :)
