The end of summer that is. I have begun my annual "too-much-to-do-so-a-little-more-to-even-it-out-may-tip-me-into-madness" frenzy.

As one of those extra things, I have written a Strange Magic fic at [livejournal.com profile] 31_days.

So much to do! So much to think about! So what am I actually doing? Filling up my tumblr queue and watching clips of The Nightly Show on Hulu and writing fanficlets.

But, the good news is that I have finished all my fair projects.

Tomorrow is the last day of school for kids. Hopefully it will be better than this one, because while Last Day Eve is usually miserable, I didn't need the children's help to be crazy today. I was loony when I woke up.

It took me four tries to braid my hair this morning and even then, there was a hunk of hair that I managed to miss. And instead of taking the whole braid out and starting over for the fifth time, I just snipped it off. This is not a rational decision. Because then I saw another strand sticking out. And another. And I had the scissors up to get it as well when I came back to myself. Cutting my own hair at 6am can't ever be a good thing. No. Stop. Put the scissors down.

Then I tripped over the cat and realized that I was late with her shot because I'd spent all morning tangled up in my hair and talking to myself. I was also late for putting on pants, making a lunch, and finding my shoes, and getting out of the house. Thank goodness it wasn't my turn to drive. Who knows what might've happened. As it was, the carpool dubbed me 'Britney' and told everyone to leave me alone.

And it's only Tuesday!

"Just because it's crazy, doesn't mean it's not normal."

Which means it's Wednesday. I usually don't quote myself, but putting that to words kinda summed up the last few days. Yesterday, I ran out of sane before I got to the post office, but I intend to mail Christmas presents after work today. Hopefully they won't be too late. I was also short of rational stuff when it came to working on my paper so I ended up writing something about werewolves in New York City. Don't worry, I won't turn it in.

Tonight will be better. I'll go to the post office and work on my paper. And watch my Netflix movie so I can finally send it back. I hope.

First thing was to go get my hair cut. I do not like haircuts, but I was beginning to look like the Cowardly Lion, so it was time. And I have to say, it looked pretty good when the deed was done. Spent awhile tossing it ala Fawcett, just because I was so cute. You gotta understand I have a poor record of haircuts. I usually end up looking like Cousin It, so this was a marked improvement.

Then, I had lunch with the folks and went to get ingredients to make bread pudding. On the way home from the store, there were two teeny tiny kittens in the middle of the road. I had seen a dead kitten on another road earlier so I hit the brakes and as soon as the car was stopped, they both came wobbling up to the car. What could I do?? I scooped em up and checked the ditches for more. I didn't see any, so I brought them on home, knowing exactly what my parents and other cats would think.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before I was calling around for animal shelters. BUT as I went out to get them to make the trip, Mom had a change of heart. She is not a cat person, but apparently two teacups worth of calico fluff with sad, runny eyes hit the right buttons, because she decided they would be outside cats and the little nieces could keep them here. So I ended up taking them to the vet who declared them about four weeks old gave them some shots and some antibiotics for their poor little eyes.

I wanted to name them Guerrero and Clementine, but the honey-bunny nieces opted for Tanny and Toothless. I'll post pictures as soon as I find the camera cord. You will NOT be getting a picture of the first tick of the season, which was on the back of my neck. I'll feel squirmy for awhile now.

Then! On the way home, they saw a bear! We've never seen an actual bear out in daylight! They've always stayed up in the woods and tended their own knitting.

Wild times in the foothills, y'all. Wild times.
