We got back from Assateague the day before yesterday and today I'll be heading off to NC to visit and stuff. I need to get my eyes checked. Get some art supplies. That sort of thing.

Assateague was great! I had such a blast. We got to see the wild ponies, which was cool. One of them wandered into our camp and went peeking in all the tents. He was so pretty! We can't touch them or feed them or anything, but we took a lot of </td>

to compensate.

Look! A pony! And a bedraggled camper.

Let's see, we went on nature hikes, we went on nature drives, we went crabbing and clamming, we wandered on the beach, we went to the Fireman's Parade, we ate some AMAZINGLY good seafood, and were also eaten in turn by sky-darkening swarms of mosquitos. Mom wins the welt award. She has one the size of a quarter. I have bites on my knees, elbows, and ears... The DEET must wear off quicker on those spots. It's kind of novel to be able to open windows without someone screaming "Hurry-hurry-close-it-AIEEE-they're-the-size-of-parakeets!!!" now that I'm back.

Crabbing was more fun than clamming by the way. It was fun to watch the blue crabs stuff chicken in their faces like mad things before you netted them up. Clamming goes against my upbringing. Where I was born and raised, you don't go feeling your way along river bottoms unless you've dropped your glasses or car keys in the water. We have snapping turtles who have beaks that can slice through bone and seem to think that toes are perfectly edible when they're offered up so nicely. So, since clamming involves a lot of digging around with one's bare toes in water you can't see in, it makes me nervous.

Ok, time to make myself useful.
