Jun. 17th, 2006 07:08 pmWell, when we drove through town last week, we saw that the funeral home parking lot was full and wondered who had died. We later found out it was Rusty Chambers. Back when I was 10 and he was 17, he played Gauntlant with me all the time and I was sure he was the coolest guy ever. I was pretty sure I'd marry him someday. Then he graduated from high school and we started moving around and I didn't see him anymore until I unknowingly passed his funeral. It's still too weird to be very sad. Maybe the sad will show up when I find out what happened.
On the other hand, we went out on the lake today. Dad caught two fish and Mom and I basked. She slept in the sun, I lounged in the shade. The boat has a cover so we could do both! I ended up doodling some Hellsing fanart and staring off into space. Then we went to the Hinton Dairy Queen which is really cool. One, they have deep-fried mushrooms. Two, they dining area overlooks the river, so you can see canoes and ducks and all sorts of debris being swept by while you try to decide between a banana pudding blizzard or a buster bar.
And in other news, the Alvin and the Chipmunks Adventure movie is now on dvd. I got it at Walmart. That movie was a large chunk of my childhood entertainment. My sisters and I probably watched it a hundred times. Then we sang all the songs... I'm gradually getting all the cartoons I liked as a child back. I have heard rumor that Shinbone Alley can be had on dvd now.. Woohoo! I said. The collection grows!

Date: 2006-06-18 12:13 am (UTC)That's sad to hear, about your childhood friend. He was so young too. Do you know what happened to him?
So, are you feeling revived with this great vacation you're having? :) It sounds like so much fun. How long will you be in WV?
Me and my brother also loved the Chipmunks Adventure. We had taped it off tv and watched it a billion times.

Date: 2006-06-18 02:14 am (UTC)I am having a great time! I leave for Barrow Aug. 2.
I hope my sisters will watch the Chipmunks with me when I get back. They both grew up and I didn't, so they don't have a lot of patience for me and my cartoons....

Well, what kind of movies do your sisters like watching if not stuff like the Chipmunk Adventure? I don't think it's really a matter of growing up, it's just whether or not you can still tolerate innocence in your entertainment (as long as it isn't mind-numbing, which the Chipmunks movie is not. Teletubbies and Barney need not apply). Me and Stephen watch animated movies now n' then. He just got me Kiki's Delivery Service for my birthday (one of my favorites!)
I'm off to watch the AMV's you sent me now!

Date: 2006-06-18 04:43 am (UTC)Okay, the Evangelion/Gladiator trailer is hilarious! The Ninja one is funny too (his friend telling him to take the 'art of the ninja' seriously, then completely ruining it himself.) I also liked the Blink/Zim amv and the HomeShoppingNetwork spoof.

Date: 2006-06-18 12:09 pm (UTC)The sibs like romantic comedies where everyone suffers heartbreak and then finds love and all is roses. Also anything with Vin Diesel.
Of the muppets, one said: "I hate them! They're ugly and weird!" To which I, the eldest and most mature, replied: "Yeah? Well, so are YOU!"
She got mad and left. For some reason.

Date: 2006-06-19 02:51 am (UTC)I have that problem with anime, but I am trying to overcome it. I did really like Pet Shop of Horrors, but I tihnk that was the dark/short story way it was written.
I am gonna apply at Ed McKays tomorrow. They are hiring a manager. Idont know if I can get it or not, but it cant hurt to try. :)
