Not like Lorelei at all.
Aug. 14th, 2009 08:50 pmThe night before last I dreamed that I was on a hike in the woods when I met a guy and a his sister. He looked like a mountain man, and she was a nurse, and I stopped being the character and switched to the audience POV as soon as I met them. The character I had been was macking on the guy pretty hard, but his sister disapproved.
However, once they all stumbled onto the Victorian mansion out in the wilderness, the sister disappeared into the house, leaving the hiker and the mountain man to their own devices. Things took a Lovecraftian turn, when the guy kept getting more and more nervous now that they were in the house. It was his family's home, he said, and he had never wanted to come back, but he had to because his sister made him.
"Why does she get to make the decisions?" the hiker-girl asked. He just looked haunted.
"You don't understand," he said. "She can destroy us both." And then he runs off and the hiker decides maybe she should break camp and head home. As she's walking through the house, she sees lots of family portraits and there's a definite family resemblance to the guy and his sister down through the generations. She starts to notice though, that all the women have really bright red eyes and mouths gleaming out of the paintings. A closer look reveals tentacles peeking out from under their dresses and webbed fingers, and all the men look trapped and harried.
She realizes that the sister is albino-pale tentacled and finned thing that will eat her and mate with its brother, and so she makes a break for it. But of course, the halls are endless and she can't find the door, and under the floorboards, she can see something white moving and the occasional flash of a watching red eye, and that's when I woke up.
Last night I dreamed that there was a big party at the WV house and everybody brought good food and was interested in all my books, but then it rained so I had to run around and make sure all my books were inside.
It's in my own head, and I still don't know what's going on in there.
