It was a Watchmen/Serenity crossover dream. Yes, I am that dorky. Somehow, Veidt was behind Miranda, the whole 'world without sin' thing. Only Miranda was in New York. Or the whole planet was New York. Which is kind of an upsetting thought.* The Serenity crew was mostly replaced by the Watchmen cast. Dr. Manhattan delivered the Operative's "I do." line about who murders children. It was actually a little creepy. I remember that Rorschach was the one freaking about a planet of 30 million people just laying down and dying from plain ol' no will to live. There were also robotic bugs ala the giant gardening mantis in Coraline. They were just sort of lumbering around, but they would grab you if you got too close.
There was also a really cool motorcycle that could travel on any vertical surface. It was like the motorcycles from Advent Children had been bred to the Ghost Rider's demon bike. And I had one, so I could drive up and down the sides of buildings, busting out windows as I went. So I'd go straight up and jump the top and land on a different building. It was awesome. Its name was Beastie.
So! Whole planet of NYC and everybody in it was dead. Except for the Watchmen, the robot bugs, and me tear-assing around on the Motorcycle of the Apocalypse. There were bad guys too, but I'm not sure who or what they were. If I could stand to write crossover fanfics, a Watchmen/Serenity one might not be such a bad idea. Still, I think I'll leave that to someone else.
*After you've spent as many years in an Alaskan Bush town, the thought of not being able to leave the tiny town is not a nice one. This 2-3 miles is all you have. Beyond here there is only winds and ghosts. This is the whole world and no matter where you go, you are still here. You can't leave! You're trapped! And it's a small world after all. It's these things that make us go nuts and pay who knows how much just to be out for a weekend and see a movie and go to Carl's Jr. and invade Barnes and Noble like a one-woman Viking Raid. I guess it might be different in other cities.
