HOUR 23 of BEING AWAKE

I got up bright and early at 6 am this morning and rode in planes all day and everything was fine until 10 pm.

I was in Seattle, 10 minutes away from boarding the plane, when the news came over the intercom. There was a volcano erupting somewhere between Seattle and Anchorage and all flight were cancelled for TWO DAYS! I'm stuck in Seattle for TWO DAYS!

It's after midnight, I've sitting in the floor of the baggage claim, and they tell me 2-4 hours until the luggage gets here and then I have to find a hotel that will let me keep pets, and try to get hold of my boss since I'm going to miss the first two days of work. And I'm all by myself except for the two cats, so I can't leave the luggage to eat or go to the bathroom and I'm nauseous from being up so long and just really down to my last nerve.

Every year I'm sure that the trip can't get any worse and every year, the trip tops itself. This year it was a volcano. A VOLCANO!!! What's next?? I'm just twitching at the thought of what will happen next year. Direct meteorite strike? Tsunami? Zombie outbreak?

Eventually, I'm just going to stop traveling. They're going to find me old and gray, shut in somewhere, muttering about volcanoes getting me. It would have to be less miserable than this!

That sounds quite unpleasant... Seattle is where J. lives, so in case you accidentaly meet him, please don't send him my warmest regards :\ And now seriously - I hope you can find somewhere to stay, for you and for the cats. Hold on!

Thanks! I'm at a hotel in Anchorage now. They have wireless and a shower, so I think I'll make it until tomorrow!

First things first...

I am glad you are ok. A two day visit to Seattle doesnt sound too bad. I mean being covered with lava would be WAY worse. Obviously, you have an internet connection. Your boss cant possibly be mad at you, this certainly beyond your control.

A good friend once told me that "if its horrible at least we will have a good story to tell!"

You can honestly say, you missed work due to a Volcano. How many people will ever get to say that??

LOL!!! (And thankfully there's proof for that in the news so they'll have to believe it).

According to the news, about 5000! But you're right. I decided that it had to be beneficial for SOMEbody to have all of is displaced... Even it is only Motel 6.

Skye posting to mention, my sister lives in Seattle. Are you having a phone number? Can you email me it? I'll see if they can come bring you to a good meal or something while you're stuck.

Wow, this is definitely a great/awful new story to add to your long list of mishaps. I just saw the article for this (the volcano) in the news:

I really hope you find a place to stay soon. I don't want you to get sick from staying up too long. I'll be praying for your safety. Keep us updated!

Thanks! I did. I'm still delayed four days that I have to pay for hotels and food and scavenge stuff for makeshift litter boxes out of parking lots, but I managed.
