Went out to celebrate St. Patty's Eve at the Dewline. We saw an arctic fox. The dewline guys despaired for it. It seems the local kids come out on snowmobiles and chase the foxes down and run over them.

That's just sickening. And not just because all the crap I have to listen to on a daily basis about the bond between the native people and the land. They are 'stewards of the land'. They have a 'spiritual connection with the animals and the land itself'. Which is why it takes six of them to hem in an arctic fox that's just barely bigger than a breadbox and run over it with a Polaris snowmachine until it's a bloody smear on the snow.

Hypocrisy aside, I can't help but be appalled by the waste. Even if the fox's life meant nothing, its pelt would still be worth a lot. And what the hell?? Am I just such a goody-two-shoes that I don't see the appeal in splattering a small animal all over the landscape? Because I think it's sick. And mean. And I can't even feel sorry for them as maladjusted, troubled youth. I think they're a bunch of punk bastards and I hope the ice breaks under their snow machines and their bodies are never found. Good riddance. I'd rather have the foxes.
