TCM is showing The Black Stallion.

I watched it constantly when I was little and now it's been a few years since I've seen it. I had forgotten what a gorgeous movie it is. I may have to break down had acquire one of these, for old times sake. There's not much dialogue in it, except from Micky Rooney when the training starts. The shots are all beautiful, (in a few scenes, a bit cornily so) and the only thing I really have to complain about is that at some points the music is overblown and cheesy. It's not enough to have a something meaningful happen, there must be a full orchestral explosion to make sure you notice. Thankfully, it's not that often.

Other than that, I love the movie as much now as I did as a munchkin. The scenery is beautiful, whether it's on the boat, the island, in the ocean, or Henry's farm. I loved the old boat. The boy seemed to the only child on it. The colors in it impressed me again. I had forgotten too how scary the fire on the ship scene was. The island scenes were great. Austere rocks, and beautiful water, and over all of it, The Black goes tearing around like a dark angel. And if you just happen to enjoy footage of horses running, it's a good movie.

In other movie news, I'm still dying to see Pan's Labyrinth and everybody tells me Happy Feet is the best animated movie ever. And I'll probably end up seeking out Ghost Rider and Smokin' Aces too. Not until May, sadly. Unless something happens where I fly out and get a chance to go to a theater. It doesn't seem likely at this point. But I can wait.
