Happy Turkey Day!

We're watching the parade. I remember when I was seven we went to New York to see it in person. It was a blast. Supergirl was in theaters at the time. In Chinatown, we ate shrimp as big as my fist. We also had gyros.

Later, when I was 14, we were on Guam and a typhoon had torn across the island right before Thanksgiving. The power was out for days, and everybody's turkey went bad in the island heat. Amid the stink of rotting turkey, we went to help some people from our church who lived on the coast.

The waves had come into their house and left a foot of sand and a coral rock the size of their armchair. The church went to help them shovel it out. I got the job of picking up all the dead fish and other little sea critters that had been spread across their yard. Their dogs were rolling around in it and having a great time. There were still shrimp skittering around in the pools and puddles, so I chased them down and put them in a bucket for later release. That Thanksgiving meal was Cheetos and warm Pepsi. We didn't get electricity back for another week. It was still fun, though!

Ahh, memories! I'm thankful just to have those stories to tell. This year we're going to a potluck kind of dinner with friends. I made an apple cake and burned it.
There was enough ingrediants left to make another one, so I did, and it came out much better. Now as long as I don't find a way to ruin the glaze for it, it should be all right.

Hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving!

Try cookies! They're more forgiving than cake. Did you guys do anything for Turkey Day? I ate myself into a stupor and spent the afternoon trying to focus on the tv.

We did. We brought Thanksgiving to Australia. I can make cookies so I do. It's funny cause I can make pies too. Are you enjoying the never ending darkness?
