Two days of little kids down. The big class is in the morning. There's so many we don't have enough chairs for them all, which has to be against some policy somewhere! But they're all pretty good. We haven't had nearly as many tears this year. Last year there was weeping and wailing, tearing of hair, and gnashing of teeth. This year, we've only had two crying fits and they both calmed down pretty quickly. There's only 13 three year olds, so after the teeming hordes of four year olds move on, it seems a breeze! We do have two that do not listen. I haven't been so utterly ignored since high school. I thought one of them might be a little special, because he has that autistic way of NOT looking at you when you talk to him. But it turns out that he just doesn't pay any attention. I'm a walking piece of furniture as far as he's concerned. ( "How odd... that walking furniture is making noises at me again. Best not to encourage it. I'll walk headlong into a door to shoo it away..." )
The other one that doesn't listen is just a monkey. I don't feel too badly that because I saw him do the exact same thing to his mom. Makes me want to say "You're his mother! YOU are ALLOWED to smack him! Don't waste the privilege!!" But she didn't and I can't, so I guess he'll just lay in the floor, laughing, sticking out his tongue, and yelling "NO!!" forever.
However, the funniest thing I've heard so far happened during DIAL test. The kid would be shown a picture of some normal object and would be asked to say what the object was and what it was used for. The funny part happened when a little boy was shown a picture of a wire clothes hanger. His face lit up and he said "That's a hooker! You take clothes off it!" I don't know what score he got for that answer, but there were many snorts and snickers from the adults in the room.
In other news, I've been watching the History Channel. I had no idea the Red Baron was so young! They showed the picture of him when he was dead and he looked like a kid! I had always pictured him as a seasoned warrior, not a 26 year old! Weeeeird.
