Life in the Wilds
Jun. 16th, 2006 08:14 amThere's a humongous raccoon in the backyard, eating the stale cheerios I put out for the birds... The cat is understandably terrified. He got to sleep indoors last night because I heard coyotes yipping and yowling.
Also, I've been picking cherries. We've got a little cherry tree that's covered in em. They're so bright and shiny... Trying to pick them usually leaves me with those faint green 'ghost shadows' after I look away from them. The mulberries aren't ripe yet, but I'll be picking them as soon as the are. And blueberry season starts soon too! I like berries.
Let's see. On Monday the plan is to go to Maryland to do some island-camping. Or at least to stomp around the island all day, get tired and big-bitten, then head back to town to find a motel with air conditioning. You just never can tell how our plans may go. I'm kinda psyched about it. I read all the Marguerite Henry Chincoteague books as a kid and I'm still horse-crazy enough to be excited about seeing the wild ponies.
In the meantime, I've been painting again. It goes badly, but I'm enjoying myself and the mess I've made. I'm out of practice.
