I have a habit, a quirk, if you will. I always check behind the shower curtain.
I do it in my own bathroom, and in any other bathroom I happen to be in. I don't pay attention to any hygiene products, I don't notice hard water stains, or soap scum, or anything like that. I just want to be sure there's no one else in there with me. So, quick look behind the shower curtain and then to business.
So far, no one has ever been standing quietly in the tub when I checked. Which is a good thing, because for all my vigilance, I have no idea what I would do if I ever did find someone lurking on the other side of the shower curtain. I'm not nervous enough about it to go armed into the bathroom, brandishing a crowbar or croquet mallet at the unknown, but it has occurred to me that if there was say, a maniac in a hockey mask crouching amongst the loofahs, I should have some sort of back up plan.
Dear friend Hlao-roo assures me that she does the same thing, but she didn't have any insight into what to do in the event of a tub-lurker either. Perhaps a croquet mallet, propped casually in the corner of the bathroom like part of the decor, might not be such a bad idea.
