Well, we started the day off with a car wreck.

Barrow doesn’t have paved roads, just some packed snow on the dirt roads. And since it’s been warming up (14 degrees the other day! Heat wave!) and then freezing back, it’s slipperier than a greased eel in a vat of egg whites. But, long story short, the oncoming car came around a sharp corner and couldn’t quite make it, and T-boned us on the way to work.

I wasn’t hurt at all, but my Dad got a whack on the head. He went to the clinic after awhile of being at work, and a little while after that, Mom came to get me to sit with him while she did the make-up testing at her school. I was to make sure he didn’t fall asleep or have his eyes roll back or anything awful like that.

So it’s not enough that his head, shoulder, back hurt. Now he’s got me watching him like a vulture for any sign of weakness. The doctor gave me a list of things to look for. Don’t let him sleep, make sure his pupils look normal, that he can move all his limbs, and stuff like that. The most stupid thing I’ve said all day? “Tell me if you fall asleep.” Yeesh.

Mom came to check on us at lunch and stayed with him while I took the car to the shop for a damage assessment. By the time I got back it was too late to go back to work. Well, I could’ve gone, but there wouldn’t have been time to do anything but wave as they went to the bus.

Tomorrow will be better, I’m just sure.
