She Brought it on Herself

I was laying around my parents' living room the other day, a nd I had a goofy thought. My thought was a weird and random one. I went to get a glass of water, and was still grinning to myself about my goofy thought by the time I got back.

My Mom noticed and said, "You look like a lunatic, walking around, eyes on the ground, and grinning like that. What on earth is going through your mind??"

So I said:

"Suppose someone had huge, 200-lb-a-piece boots strapped to their ankle bones. Very heavy and impossible to get off. Suppose they wore them for years because they couldn't get them off. And they would have to get used to it, you know, moving along at a shuffle. But then! One day the boots DO come off! Think how light the person would feel! Think how happy they'd be! They could run and climb and frolic and cavort.

"How funny would it be see them go skipping around? They could go swimming and horseback riding again. And use small footbridges and get pedicures. And they'd probably be real strong after that too. After learning to walk and run with a 200 lb boot on each foot, they could probably kick through telephone poles and jump great distances!" By this point, I'm just giggling at the mental picture I have of all this. Then, I noticed the way Mom was blinking at me. "It just struck me as funny," I tried to explain.

And my Mom looked at my Dad, who raised an eyebrow at her and said "You DID ask."

I can relate to that fantasy, in a way. After carrying 70+ pounds of gear on a 12+ mile foot march- you feel light as a bird once all the gear comes off. So much so your whole body tingles (though that might also be a result of extreme muscle fatigue).

It is an extreme joy to be finished with a foot march.

And yes, she DID ask.

Aha, but can you kick through telephone poles when it's done?

(Don't feel bad. I can't either. I probably couldn't even carry the 70 lbs for 12 miles.)

Heck no. Instead I groan, slump into a chair and peel the dead skin off my blistered feet.

Gah.
Foot injuries... You know how I feel about those. Someday when you don't have to hike for a living anymore, maybe we can finally make it to the top of the mountain.

I don't know, that mountain was victorious over me that time. *shakes fist in anger* I will get you next time mountain... Next Time! (yeah, right. By the time I see that mountain again I'll be a lazy civilian *huff*wheeeze*).

I need to drink more coffee. S is getting home LATE and wants me to wait up. I just got off work though so I am tired. But then, it's Friday! I will attempt to stay awake.

That's actually a really cool idea.

I was at work the other night, and Phil the Nurse caught me smiling, and asked why...

Me: You don't want to know.
Phil: No, really, tell me.
Me: It's about fanfiction again. You hate fanfiction.
Phil: No, go ahead.
Me: You know what a Mary Sue is? *short explanation*
Phil: Um, OK...
Me: Pyramid Head... you remember him from the movie, right? He gets Mary Sues.
Phil: Wait... what?
Me: And I told my friend that he doesn't really seem like marriage material, and she said, "But think how cute the miniatures on the wedding cake would be." *big smile* That's what I was smiling about.
Phil: I'm... going to another house now.

There must be something about the fanficcing brain that creates these scenarios... And speaking of Pyramid Head, this (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/32524984/?qo=17&q=by%3Ahomoshiroi&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps) is both really cute and disturbing..

Actually I think your scenario could be some kind of metaphor for... well, all kinds of things. It's really cool.

That... abomination... freaks me out more than PH-chan (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/TeaRoses/PH-Chan.jpg). And I wasn't sure that was possible.

sullied and unusual

It is a strange thing.

Maybe I should look for deeper meaning to my ramblings. It couldn't hurt, I guess. Every little bit of insight helps!

this is why you are in my friend group.

besides everything you were imagining is something you yourself want to do. cavort in the grass and swim and run and play near little steams. a true child of nature.

Sigh. I would like to do all those things... Except for maybe the pedicure...

I saw barefoot prints in the snow the other day. They say that the only things that go barefoot up here are the immanaraks. (sp?)

What's an immanarak? o_O

It's one of the local little people. They are about 2-3 feet tall, they say. They'll come in houses if you don't close the door. I have kids at school who say their dads and uncles and grandpas come back from hunting trips with stories of seeing small, naked people running alongside snowmobiles or watching them from knolls around the caribou herds. They're supposed to be really strong and fast, much more so than a human.

I've never seen one, but I know people who swear they have.
