It was an amazingly beautiful day. I tagged along to Princeton and all the trees were red and yellow and I don't even think there is a word for the shade of orange we saw. One of my nieces was with us and I took her wood-stomping behind my aunt's house. We found leaves and made them into crowns and cracked acorns for the squirrels. She also learned a new word: briars.

Meanwhile my living room is hip deep in stuff from storage. I am finding old drawings that I really should finish and old letters from people and mix tapes for car trips and who knows what else. I'm afraid I'm going to keep it all. Maybe I should go digital and scan everything onto a thumbdrive or something and still have it, but be able to toss the piles. Because there's a lot of them.

Title: Flutters
Day/Theme: 9. The ages passed have morphed into butterflies fluttering in my room
Series: original
Character/Pairing: The Biker, Josh
Rating: PG

The new pain pills were good. The Biker was sprawled out in his wheelchair, head back over the neck rest and arms slack over the sides. He would have to remember to only take half next time, he didn't like to be this vulnerable even in private, but at the moment, the vertigo felt almost like motion, like wind in his face.

Everything was fluttering. The gently shifting shadows of the tree branches on his wall were three-dimensional now, hovering over his face like dark violet moths. The shadows over his bed slowly took the shape of 'Rez who had gone to prison with him. He couldn't remember what had happened to 'Rez, but the apparition faded in and out so he couldn't tell if it was bleeding.

The fan fluttered the curtains and he had never noticed before that they were the exact same fabric as that one girl's sundress. She had said her name was Sheila, but he had been sure she was lying. She had broken down outside of Socorro and ridden with him for two days before he dropped her off.

The glare on the window looked a lot like the first doctor he remembered after the operation, so white it stung. He turned away from that. He didn't want to think about that right now.

There was a sound and the air currents in the air all changed. 'Rez burst into a gray mist. Sheila blurred out of focus. Something much brighter leaned in over his face. He mostly recognized Josh. This time though, the bright hair reminded him of the autumn he had been in New England and the trees were all shades of yellow and orange. Something about it made him a little dizzier and the moths were in his stomach now.

Josh looked troubled and it was easy to tell why. His face creased down the middle and the halves of his face folded outwards like a butterfly wings. His eyes became eyespots and his whole head became paper thin. The Biker cupped his hands around it to keep it still. Josh was going to need his face after all. It felt wet against his palms and it wasn't until much later that he realized what that meant.

Thank you. I still intend to write this whole story sometime. It just might be in snippets.
