unknownfate: (book afraid)
For the first time in years, I haven't read 50 books since January. By my math, I'll have to read a book a day to make it by New Year's and that kinda defeats the purpose of enjoying a book. It made me wonder what I've been up to all year that I've neglected one of my favorite things.

Let's see…
January of this year, I was frantic calling from Alaska to Arizona to figure out when I would get my certification because the old one expired December 30th. I had completed the course on December 16th. Took awhile to be processed, they told me. Closed for the holidays. Etc. Then they told me that they had changed their mind about the course being complete and I had to another semester. Panic! I didn't have another semester to do it! I had scheduled it out to be done on time.

So, up until April 1 I was scrambling to try and fix the situation. Papers faxed back and forth, emails thick as ice fog, signatures needed for this, approval for that, much fretting and gnashing of teeth. But it all came to an end on April Fool's Day. I was called in to the office and they told me that time was up and they were hiring for my replacement. Despair. All the work for nothing.

And to make it even worse, I live in district housing, so when I lost my district job, I lost my place to live too. So, April through May was spent trying to move 17 years worth of stuff out a house and either get rid of it or mail it across the country. It wasn't good for me.

That plunked me back home in WV by the end of May, kinda shell-shocked and depressed. I owned a third of a rental property my parents had, so they put me up in that. Having moved, I was now moving in. unpacking and getting furniture out of storage, repainting and trying to figure out what to do. I wanted to get the certification whatever else happened so I made all those arrangements.

June and July went into helping my parents flip a house they bought. It turned out pretty cute. In August, the student teaching started and I did that until the second week of November, by which time, I had started Nanowrimo. And now it is December and I have a whole pile of books that need reading, because not having time to read doesn't mean I can resist getting one if it catches my eye.

So… yeah. Turns out I have been pretty busy. Now I'm back at the calling around trying to find out about certification again. Off to read.
