It seems deceptively simple....
Mar. 21st, 2008 03:09 pmOk. My laptop computer has a two little buttons below the touch pad. These buttons have little soft pads on them to make them nice to click on. And click, I do. So much so that there is a bald spot in the middle of the touch pad, a partial handprint worn into the finish of the wrist rest, and the soft pad on the main click button is getting thin and coming off.
No big deal, I tell myself, and start calling around to various computer places. It turns out that you can't replace the soft pads without taking the whole computer apart. To which I am forced to call bullshit. It's a tiny strip of some spongy foam stuff that fits into a little rectangle on top of the button. All you have to do is peel off the old stuff (It's easy. I've done it.) and put a new piece in.
Except that you can't. Not without removing the whole top frame part of the keyboard. No less than three different places have told me that it can't be done. Which I think might be a cover to hide that maybe those little pads don't exist.
I might just have to make my own. I know where there's a Joann's in Fairbanks. I'll get a teensy piece of foam and stick it in there myself. So Hah! Take that Computer Cache, Geek City, and Other Place I Don't Remember!
