May. 10th, 2005 06:12 pmI got to watch Animal X over the weekend whilst at my Grandma's and it was a COOL one! It was all about the Beast of Gevaudan, which I had stumbled over in my werewolf research awhile back. It was also what the movie 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' was based on. (a fun movie, if a bit ridiculous)
Being a shifter fan, I had always amused myself with the notion that the Beast was a French Red Talon run amuck in the way that Red Talons do that. (over 300 humans messily killed) This episode of Animal X was about more realistic probabilites, though. The notion that it was a wolf who did it, as history suggests was cried down by wolf researchers and the sheep farmers who had to deal with them. A predator expert thinks it was a wolf/wolfhound hybrid, judging by the descriptions and pictures that were made of the critter. There was even a theory that it was a hyena that had escaped from a menagarie.
The best theory (I thought) was presented by a criminal profiler, who said that it could all be a serial killer type thing. I won't go into great detail because you can watch the show if you're interested. Woohoo!
