The Day After the 4th of July
Jul. 5th, 2004 10:53 amWell,we missed the parade because that was on the 3rd for some reason. But we went to see my Grandma and we had fried chicken and all the extras at her house. Then we went to see friends of the family at their BBQ and there was horseshoe games and badminton and some crazy stories. Then we went to the Boon to hear the band and see the fireworks. The band was called Convertible Blond and I had never heard of them, but they put on a good show.
I have to head back to NC today. It was such a relief to see my family again though. And I sleep so much better in the family house, even though a sister took my room long ago. Home is always home. The sun seems clearer, and the air cooler. If there was any kind of work to be found in this town, I never would have left.
It was weird to see so few people this time. Usually, I see everybody I ever knew and just about all my living relatives on the 4th. Not this year though. Maybe at Thanksgiving.
