These things happen in threes

Happy Halloween everybody!

Just for grins I'm doing an all-call for The Three Things That Scared You. I picked three things that scared me when I was a kid. (At least one of them still scares me though…)

1. The Headless Horseman. I used to wander far afield back when we lived in the foothills and I sometimes had a long way to run to get home when the sun started to go down. Hurrying through the darkening woods, it was easy to imagine the sound of hooves on the trail behind me. It made me hurry a little more. By the time I made it home, I would usually be at a full sprint.

2. The "I'm Coming Up" story they used to tell me as a kid... Y'know, the one where you're in bed and you hear a voice whispering "I'm coming up..." "I'm on the stairs..." "I'm in the hall..." "I'm at your door..." "I'm by your bed..." and so on. Freaked me out at the time.

3. My Grandmother's basement. Ho-ly cats... That place gave me the creeps, even as an adult. It was separated into three rooms with open stairs. No matter where you were down there, you were sure that if you looked up, there would be someone standing there watching.

When I was really little, I wasn't allowed down there because Raw Head and Bloody Bones would reach through the stairs and pull me under. (Or so I was told.) When I was big enough to go down there by myself, I was afraid of a man in the coal bin. Nobody told me about him. I was just sure he was there. He wore a red shirt and had messy hair and a bushy beard. I was terrified of him.

Mom tells me she was always afraid of that basement too, so I don’t feel too bad about that one. She grew up in that house, and she’s afraid of the basement to his day. She doesn’t know anything about the hairy man, though.

If you’ve got three things you want to share, let me know!

fears....

I cant put a finger on anything specific at the moment..... Sadly.... but i am sure there are things that creep me out.. I know being in crowded places is one. Fear of being buried alive is one, and fear of being trapped.

Those all sound like the same fear to me!

Two scary things...

Scary, scary things...

1. The Phantom Piper from the episode "Ghost of Castle Mcarr" in Tea Bag and the Pearls of Wisdom, an old kid's show. He was basically a badly-cgi-d ghost of a bushily-red-haired Scotsman who played on his pipes and haunted McCarr castle. I don't know what it was, but he scared the living shit out of me.
I was about five when I watched it, and I was convinced he would come to my doorway at night, so I used to put teddybear sentries on the end of my bed to make him think it was my parents in with me. It must have worked, because he never came for me.

Knightmare. It scared me stupid, but I loved it, and watched it every week. It was D and D or roleplaying on TV.

I can't really think of anything else. Nothing "real" scared me. I was a pretty brazen kid. What on Earth happened??

Is your grandmother Irish?
1- Drowning
2- giant spiders(but only in my house or yard. Behind glass or someones pet doesn't bother me)
3- any empty house I'm spending the night alone in.

Most of my family is of Irish or English descent, or at least that's the story most of them have agreed on. Grandmother told me about Rawhead and that goblins would get me if I didn't watch out.

I was also told that if I got out of bed at night there'd be a boogie man waiting for me under the blankets when I got back, but that was one of my mean, older cousins.

Yo. Amethyst Angel here. I was a stupid idiot and lost all my e-mail messages and addresses during a recent computer reformat (How was I to know that Mozilla Thunderbird was nothing like Eudora where all of the attachments, settings and data were in the actual applications folder and not on some obscure userdata file elsewhere on the computer?) So anyway, please e-mail me at some point in the future so I can have your address again.

Thanks!
