Last day of January. The longest month is about to begin. (I don’t care what any calendar tells you… February IS the longest month. If you can live through those 28 days you have a chance of making it to summer. And we don’t even have spring to look forward to here! No budding trees. No new grass or flowers. No singing birds. No peepers in the pond. The wind does die down a little, but the cold bites down like a rottweiler and shakes you til you loose all feeling in your limbs.
In other news, we have the

Last week, one of the boys in K4 was telling us that he saw his dad hit his mom. We were trying to find out if that was something we reported, and to who, when we got the news.

If the gossip going around is true, the boy’s dad came home and caught his wife with another man. He killed the other man and beat his wife to the point she had to be flown to a real town for treatment. We have no idea how much the boy saw or understood.

In the K3 class is a child who was a sort of nephew to the man who was killed. He thinks his friend has just gone back to Korea to live. (The body was shipped back over the weekend.) His father went with it, so he misses them both.

Oof. What do you say to that?

Oh my Goodness! That's awful! No child should ever have to experience things like that! I had some pretty horrible childhood experiences concerning my older brother (he used to beat me up badly for no reason at all , and told various lies to get me into trouble quite a few times), but it just pales into insignificance next to that...
