Unfinished Fanfiction

Ok, I have an (ok, several) ongoing fanfic over at the Watchmen Kinkmeme. I haven’t been able to update them lately due to real life chasing me around waving a morningstar made of reality over its head. But! I thought, this weekend! I’ll post a chapter or two and ride the update updraft to better times with the RL stuff.

There is, however, a snag.

I had this particular fic all plotted out, but then, I had gotten a new idea that I had liked better and so I jotted it down so I would remember. Folks, I have forgotten where I wrote it down and all I remember was that it was better than my original idea. What am I supposed to do now? I could stick with the Plan A, I guess, but B was better! I felt better about it.

Do I just wait and keep looking? If history repeats itself, I’ll find B as soon as I finish A. Maybe I can type out the A to lure B out of hiding.

Should I devote all that search time to an even better (maybe) Plan C?

Or should I just declare that if the idea was all that good in the first place, I wouldn’t have forgotten it?

It’s hard work being scatterbrained. People think it’s easy. It isn’t.

I vote for Plan C. It's probably what I would do, at least.

But I hear your frustration. I had this very bare-bones idea for a novel, and I got this inspiration for a plot development. So I wrote down a couple of key words to remember it by, and now of course I have key words but can't for the life of me remember what they are supposed to mean.

I'll look again tomorrow, and failing that, will have to move on. There's only so many places left it could be. *gasp!* The truck! I haven't checked the backseat of the truck which is almost full of my junk. I'll try there.

Same thing happened to me once, when I was working on a comic - I had a totally new version of a particular segment's dialogue written out and I lost it, and I knew it was better but I couldn't remember it. So I went with the original dialogue and when i found the new version weeks later i was all ARGH SHIT THIS REALLY WAS BETTER.

So. Yeah. It sucks. Personally I'd prolly be digging my belongings apart looking for it, if you're sure it was better.

this wouldn't happen to be squidfic would it

Yeah... I'll look again tomorrow.

Penance, actually. With squidfic, I just have a gap to jump. I know what will happen, I just have to get there.

Ah, okay! I didn't realize Penance was you! YOU ARE STEALTH.

I guess so. I usually don't claim a fic until I post it ff.net or something. I think [livejournal.com profile] tuff_ghost guessed it was mine already, so my ninja-posting isn't perfect yet. (That and I tell if people ask!)

O I JUST WANTED TO SAY I LOVE YOUR FICS TO LITTLE TINY PIECES AND I HOPE YOU WILL CONTINUE WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE

TY FOR BEING SO EXCELLENT

Ask for help if you need it. I am kind of useless but there are lots of other people who aren't.

Thanks! I'll be glad when I can write and doodle as much as I want again. In the meantime, I can't find anything! I'm going to blame goblins.
