It's funny because it's true.

Happy Inuit Day!

Some of the community elders came around to talk to the classes. It started out, pretty much the way I expected it to, with a "When I was your age..."

And it turns out that when these ladies went to elementary school, there weren't any streetlights, so they had to walk in the freezing cold, in the DARK, with polar bears everywhere, and they had to make their own clothes, and play with rocks.

And to prove it, one of these little old ladies pulled out two rocks and starts to juggle one-handed. I was impressed. Then, she tossed them to the next little old lady who did it too.

Turns out, that instead of jumping rope, they juggled beach rocks. There were even little songs and chants to see how long you could keep juggling.

Pretty cool, I have to admit.

Agreed! It's hard to fault an elderly person who can track a lemming, kill it with their hands and make stew for 14 out of it. Perhaps I exaggerate, but wow.

That really is cool! That's great that your students get to hear stuff like that.

My mom walked to school in the snow but no polar bears. (Also, when we visited her teeny-tiny home town I found out her school was about a block away from her house.)

Rock Juggling Skills

If we didn't have the internet we'd probably have more skills too. *sigh*

I tried knitting but I can't do that and type at the same time! Well, actually I just sucked at it. >

And the bears are back! We got an email at work to be careful. Five polar bears were spotted outside of town, headed this way.

Ok... I shall bow now...

How in the heck do you beat that for a "When I was your age" story?

I don't see how you can.

I can't top that one. My childhood didn't have a whole lot of arctic-type peril in it... There was the winter I was sent under the house to find a puppy that had gotten stuck there and was crying, but that's it!

They have these great new toy horses here. i saw one at Wal-mart. Was there against my will but it's sort of animatronic and moves and what not and is very large. I think you could try having a pony again.
