First 20k words have been kind of weird. My sister said it reminded her of Lady in the Water in the trailer park when I told her about it. Only instead of Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard, I have a crippled up biker and his troubled teenaged lackey. I guess Jeffrey Dean Morgan could play the Biker if it was a movie, but I don't know about Josh. If Rupert Grint was starved down and de-aged a little and had about 8 of his cute points removed, he could be Josh, I guess. Also, he'd have to fake a small town in rural American accent. I don't know. Anybody got any ideas?

I managed a Biker fic for today.

And I found my old moleskin full of sharpie doodles. I had decided to draw a doodle for every fic I wrote and I didn't get that far, to be honest. But, here are the first two.

It was an amazingly beautiful day. I tagged along to Princeton and all the trees were red and yellow and I don't even think there is a word for the shade of orange we saw. One of my nieces was with us and I took her wood-stomping behind my aunt's house. We found leaves and made them into crowns and cracked acorns for the squirrels. She also learned a new word: briars.

Meanwhile my living room is hip deep in stuff from storage. I am finding old drawings that I really should finish and old letters from people and mix tapes for car trips and who knows what else. I'm afraid I'm going to keep it all. Maybe I should go digital and scan everything onto a thumbdrive or something and still have it, but be able to toss the piles. Because there's a lot of them.

Today's 31_days fic: A Biker ficlet )

[livejournal.com profile] 31_days somehow got me to start writing out snippets of a story that I've had milling around since the 8th grade. I've focused on some of the background characters over the main cast (who aren't so interesting now that I'm no longer a teenager myself). I've had a few people mention wanting to see it all in one chunk. This is as close as I've gotten. I've never written a story out of order before, so it may not make much sense, but your best bet is to start at the beginning (down at the bottom) and work your way up.

April 2 Walking on higher ground (Josh)

April 1 pink ribbon scars that never forget (Josh, Biker)

Mar 1 Hunt for the liquid measure of your steps (Beth)

Feb 1 Like a star in chains (Josh, Aaron)

Nov 4 I can see it all too clear; the time has come to face my fear (Biker, Soldier)

Nov 3 we are but weaklings pretending to be tough
(Biker, Soldier)

Sept 26 she smiles like the knife (Biker, Josh‘s mom)

May 9 dark they were and goldeneyes (Josh, Beth)

May 1 Mischief of one kind and another (Josh, his mom)

April 21 ignorance is not stupidity, but it might as well be (Josh, Biker)

Apr 12 choose good actions without good knowledge (biker, Josh)

Dec 3 I appeal to your scratches and your tattered fur (Biker)

Oct 3 Forever
(Biker)

Sept 3 prisoner's dilemma
(Biker)

Fic of the Day: Biker fic continued from yesterday. The next prompt just fit the next scene so I went with it.

I got all girly over this episode of Extreme Home Makeover. I hadn't watched in awhile and I had forgotten that they tend to jerk both the tears and the heartstrings. I had just bragged today that I didn't remember the last movie I cried at and here I am sniffling over a family that finally has a bed for everyone to sleep in.

As antidote, I'm watching Dirty Jobs. Ahh. Leech-trapping. That dries the tears and snaps the ol' heartstrings ALLLLL back into place.

Fic of the Day: Biker story It's kind of a rambling one that strays from the prompt, but it has been a long time since I've written anything that wasn't Watchmen, with all the egg-laying, transformations, and snugglytimes therein. I figure I'm allowed a little weirdness.

Fic of the Day: Original The Biker story. I really need a name for it. He meets one of his fellow boarders under unusual circumstances.

And a bit of Ick for you. The two cats? They filled up the litterbox. In a NIGHT. I cleaned the box out and went to bed and next day, the cats were sprawled out in their usual lazy puddles.

“Ah,” they seemed to say. “Excellent. You’re awake. We have a little job for you, when you have a moment.”

My nose was way ahead of them.

“Phew!” I said. “Y’all sure are stinky today. I’ll just-WHAAAH!”

There wasn’t any loose litter in the box and two little happenings outside the box. No way just two cats could produce that much in just one night. I think they threw a party and didn’t tell me.

Fic of the Day: Original

I really need to think of a title for this story. It's not really 'The Biker story' even though he's the one I keep writing about. He only gets some mention this time.

A Big If

Fic of the Day: Original

Second day of dragging myself out of bed. I don't know why I'm so tired. I've only had a half week to deal with instead of the whole week everybody else at work has. But I'm still slipping off into the stares even while I sit here. I can sleep in tomorrow though. If I get everything done tonight that I didn't finish last night.

A short one about the Biker again.

More of the Biker. He finally told somebody about being haunted by the black dog, but his contacts are few and not much help.

Fic of the early morning: Original

I can't sleep! So I figured I'd write more about the Biker and his ghost dog. Well, maybe it's a ghost. It's definitely haunting him. I probably shouldn't post anything this late/early, but I have to go to work in a few hours, so I'll try to sleep again.

I love it when the mood icon is really on the mark.

Fic of the Day: Original It's more about the Biker from my last original ficlet. I wrote it awhile back and it fit the prompt, so there ya have it.

It's been a day. I woke up at 3 am with chattering teeth. I couldn't tell if the house was cold or I was, but the cats were huddled up to me, so it either was really cold or they were trying to save my life by keeping me warm. It wasn't working though, so I hauled my shaking, shivering self to the tub and scalded myself bright pink to warm up again. After that I felt better, so I went back to bed.

Next thing you know, I'm sweating buckets and coughing my lungs inside out. I can't win. Then, since I'm a glutton for punishment, I dragged my shakey, sweaty carcass into work. Hoooph. The kids were bonkers today! Maybe it's a change in the air pressure, maybe it's the varying degrees of illness they're carrying themselves, perhaps they merely sensed my weakness, but they were NUTS.*

Now I'm home, and I've had another hot soak and another spell of chest-tearing coughing. I'm hungry but I have no appetite. I can hear a gurgling down in my chest like fluids draining through old pipes. And I can't help but notice how nice and warm my laptop is. Perhaps I'll cuddle it a bit longer.

*Heh. I misspelled that as 'BUTS' the first time. A few of them were that, too.

Fic of the Day: It's from an original story of mine. It's about an old farm that's been turned into a boarding house, and the things that happen when a sinkhole on the property opens up into a faerie realm. Before any of that happened though, one of the boarders has his own problems.

I don't usually use my own stuff for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days but I felt like writing some on the old story.
